It’s how we connect

When people ask, “why should story matter” when it comes to video, broken down, its how we connect to each others as humans. At the very start of human kind, we told stories to pass down history, to inform and to entertain. Its a huge part of how we communicate with the people around us. With this, its a fundamental part of what makes us human.

“We are all storytellers. We all live in a network of stories. There isn’t a stronger connection between people than storytelling.”

Your audience wants to be engaged

I remember watching Andrew Stanton’s Ted talk ‘The Clues to a great story’ and totally rethinking how the audience plays a role in the video medium. Stanton says “the audience actually wants to work for their meal.” He calls this concept  "Unifying Theory of Two Plus Two”. Don't give the audience four, give them two plus two, simple enough to wok out but not too simple to bore the audience. What does this mean for you as a business? Construct something that doesn't just simply showcase your product or service but build a story around it.

They want to empathise

Just like the first point, this one goes back to our nature as humans. We want to connect, and we do that through empathy. We want to feel something, we want to be moved, and that simply is only done through story. How does your product or service effect your potential customer?

Stories can create action

Finally, story can create action for your business. When a story based film moves someone either emotionally or logically then it causes them to act upon it, wether that be to support, purchase or get more information. With so much services, products and causes to give to, its through intentional story-telling that you can engage your audience and get them to captivate with what you as a business is doing.

Something we really focus on here in Motive Peak is story led content, if you feel like there is a video your business could be benefit from, please do get in contact for a free consultation.

Thanks,
